Chapter 2: Life’s Interruptions

In life, we all have things that interrupt our journey and make us pay attention. After my father’s passing in June of 2007, I realize my period had gone away. It just stopped. My first thought was that it was probably due to stress and went on with my life. Then after 3 months of missed periods, I started to experience abnormal bleeding. Logically, I thought that it was just stress again and that my periods would be back to their regular schedule. The problem was, my period started and then stayed for two months. Once again I tried to make sense of this and thought it was peri-menopause, but scheduled an appointment with my gynecologist just to make sure.

After a visit with my doctor, he thought that it was probably just early signs of menopause and recommended three paths of treatment – taking birth control, taking hormones or have an thermal ablation which could be done either in the doctor’s office or as an outpatient procedure at the hospital. If the procedure was done in the doctor’s office it would be less involved. If it was done as an outpatient procedure and I would have to be put under anesthesia.

I opted to have the ablation done at the doctor’s office.

Before I could have the ablation, we scheduled a routine biopsy to make sure everything looked good. As with any test or biopsy we expected the best but nervously waited for the call with the results. I was relieved when the biopsy results came back clean. We were clear to proceed.

That evening at home I had a restless sleep. When I woke in the morning I had a change of heart. Something inside of me was telling me to have the procedure in the hospital, and the feeling was strong. So I called my doctor with a change of plans and he of course wanted to do whatever I was comfortable with so we moved the venue to the outpatient at the hospital.

After the ablation was completed at the hospital, the doctor came visited me in the recovery area to tell tell me everything went well. He instructed me to rest at home and assured me that life would return to normalcy in a few days… or so he thought.

This started another of what I call – “Life’s Interruptions”!
